Regulation CC: Check 21 Error Resolution

When we talk about resolving errors, most of us immediately think about Regulation E (electronic funds transfers) or Regulation Z (credit billing errors).  Those are the big ones but you also can’t forget about the Check 21 error resolution requirements found in Regulation CC.  Specifically, Check 21 provides mandatory time frames for resolving customer disputes when a substitute check is involved.  The Check 21 error resolution procedures are very similar to Regulation E.  These requirements will come into play if the account on which the check is drawn, was deposited or “cashed against” is a consumer account; and the claim relates to a substitute check and not just an imaged check.
