The [SAFE Act](https://www.consumerfinance.gov/compliance/compliance-resources/mortgage-resources/secure-fair-enforcement-for-mortgage-licensing-act/) requires Mortgage Loan Originators (MLOs) to be licensed and registered. Registration must be completed using the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS), updated as applicable and renewed annually. In general, regulated financial institutions must:

1. Register and obtain a unique identifier.
2. Require MLOs to register and obtain a unique identifier.
3. Implement written policies and procedures to maintain compliance.
