Understanding Electronic Advertisements

Institutions are using social media and other forms of electronic advertising more and more every day because it is a cost-effective way to get information out quickly. From a compliance perspective; however, it’s important to remember that advertisements made on social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.) are generally not exempt from any disclosure requirements. Some Regulations do allow the disclosures to be “one click away” but not all of them. It’s important to refer to each specific regulation that could come into play to understand when an advertisement triggers additional disclosures and what specific information is required.
