The Importance of BSA/AML/CFT Training

One of the pillars of a BSA Program is training. The FFIEC’s BSA/AML Examination Manual states that …Banks must provide training for appropriate personnel. Training should cover the aspects of the BSA that are relevant to the bank and its risk profile, and appropriate personnel includes those whose duties require knowledge or involve some aspect of BSA/AML compliance. Training should cover BSA regulatory requirements, supervisory guidance, and the bank’s internal BSA/AML policies, procedures, and processes. Training should be tailored to each individual’s specific responsibilities, as appropriate.

The fact is, everyone’s duties require some knowledge of BSA/AML/CFT compliance. That obviously includes new employees, tellers, customer service representatives, lenders, the Board of Directors etc., but it could even include the people that clean your financial institution. They likely don’t need to know much, but they do need to know what to do if they see something suspicious.

Kevin explains more in the video.
