Regulation P …governs the treatment of nonpublic personal information about consumers by the financial institution…. Non-public personal information is any personally identifiable financial information that is not publicly available and includes information:
- A consumer provides to you to obtain a financial product or service from you;
- About a consumer resulting from any transaction involving a financial product or service between you and a consumer; or
- You otherwise obtain about a consumer in connection with providing a financial product or service to that consumer.
Regulation P does not prohibit all NPPI sharing; rather it dictates when it can be shared and when it can’t.
